Smoothing Clay Baby Head

Post by ruthchris »

Hi There,

I have been reborning dolls for 11 years and now need something more challenging. So I have bought some Super Sculpey and have been working on a Head. I have seen the head sculpts submitted and they all look so smooth and shiny. Do you use Oil to help with the smoothing? I have a few small lumps but still need to do forehead and top/ back of head before i get down to the smoothing out. Should I just use my fingers or wrap Plastic wrap/Cling Wrap around my finger?

I smooth with my tools and fingers and sometimes a little sculpey oil but mostly I just sand sand, sand...

Thank you for your help Kim! When I have finished the head I will post pics for critique.
Enjoy your weekend.

In the sculpting class I took at ROSE Marita Winters recommended sanding with fine grit paper after baking, and then using steel wool as a final soothing step.
