hand tutorial pics ( Stage One)

Post by Deniseyf »

Ok im going to have to do this in stages
as there are lots of pics
i feel the more there are the easier it will be to see
what im actualy doing!
ill be updating with more pics later
(it takes so long :? )

this is stage one
ill start stage 2 in a new post
if youve any questions you can post them HERE :D

PLEASE EXSCUSE MY MESSY DESK
IT NOTICE SEEMS TO GET WORSE AS I GO ALONG LOL  )

Ok we start with basic arm armature made from foil
Image

Ive added 2 sheets of clay to make basic arm shape
Image

Here im wrapping some clay around the armature
just to get some clay on there ill cut off excess or add later if i need to
Image

here youl see ive made VERY rouch hand shapes
what im doing right now is just getting clay on there to make a rough hand shape before i begin the sculpting of the hand
Image

here im just rolling rough sausage shape for fingers
Image

Ok here ive cut the fingers roughly to the lenghth i want them
they wont be quite as long when i finished as i once they are applied to the hand i push them down so they taper from where they meet the hand to finger tips.
Image

here ive just used my taper tool to smooth and attach fingers to hand securely
Image

Here im adding a thicker sausage of clay for the thumb
Image

here the thumb is attached, see also the begining of the thumb pad on the hand
Image

Here im adding fat pads the the hands
Ive also begun to play with positioning the fingers and trying to get the hand shape i want
Image

here just adding another fat pad.
I add three to the hand ,blending it how i want it later on

hi Denise,
Wow, thank you for doing this. :elephant: This is awesome. I was wondering. :? You don't use armatures in the fingers? Do they ever brake with this process?

Hi ya :)
No I dont use armmatures in the fingers
Of course an open hand is always going to be more breakable/delicate
than a closed fist. Ive never broken a finger on any of the babies ive
sculpted while they have been in my possesion so far touch wood :?
They just need that little bit of extra care
when holding /dressing etc.

I allways thought that Prosculpt and Sculpy Living doll are two diffrent clays. Thanks! I don´t like to make limbs, but yours are so great, so I will for sure try to make them! I just love to make the heads! Thank you again!

Daria, so did I!!
ive only recently started using the living doll
and i can honestly say there dosent seem to be any difference at all!!

and i know what you mean about liking doing the heads
I think we all feel that way
they are far more interesting to do
but its a great feeling to be able to put a complete baby together
so make a start on some limbs
if you post pics as u go i can give u some advice if u need it.

You are a doll Denise! I'm sorry to bother you with this but could you tell me which color you use? I used the baby prosculpt the for my first and am not happy with his color at all! I have seen alot of people say they like it but it looks way too pale to me??? Do I need to paint more or should I come out of the oven with a better color to begin with? Do you think the regular flesh color is better?

Hugs,
Kim

Kim ive only used the regular flesh colour
the colour looks pretty good straight from the oven

once all my pieces have been sculpted
i use acrylics to blush them all
As im in the UK we have only just got the
new baby colour prosculpt. so i havent tried it yet

Kim use up your baby colour first
you can change the colour easily with a wash of well watered
down acrylics applied with a wad of cotton. just be sure to water it down
a lot. and apply as many coats as you like letting it dry inbetween coats.
i use a micture of red with a bit of brown added. just be sure the red u use isnt an orangy red!!
