How old is antique?

Post by Joyce »

Is any doll 50 years old or older considered antique? I am trying to find out how to advertise dolls made in the late 50's and early 60's. They are over 50 years old, but made of vinyl. Are they antiques?

Antique is 75 years old and older. Newer than 75 years is vintage up to about 1960's. Than its considered somebodies stuff. At least that is what we accepted when my family had antique stores in Mesa.

I took a coarse at our local tech school for antiques. They taught us that an item has to be a minimum of 100 years old to be a true antique. Items 50-99 years old is vintage. 50 years and under is called collectibles.

As a consumer I consider '50s and '60s vintage and search for goods that way.

I should point out that there are differing opinions about the age of an antique. For instance here is an article by an "expert" in antiquities.

i understood antique to be 100 years and 40 years plus to be vintage. I am vintage and hope to be antique one day as long as I am a well loved antique and not too many chips and cracks lol. XXXXX

Hello, first post here. Although I have been a member x 1 year. Years of admiring " lurking" here. Husband is an archeologist. 100 Years or older is antique, however not absolute rule.
