ABOUT BALDIES
Am I the only one here who think bald babies look unfinished? I think I'm definitely in the minority. But of the hundreds of human babies I've see they all at least have a bit of fuzz or really short hair starting to grow. Totally bald, shiny heads just don't do it for me. But that's just me and my own opinion . Just wondering.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I absolutely adore bald babies. But not all doll kits lend themselves to being left bald so I can't say all of them look good without hair. I myself was bald until I was 2 years old when my hair came in pure white. I asked my Mom if I had any hair and she said no not until I was 2 not even peach fuzz.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I love bald babies but agree that not all babies (like not all men) can pull off the bald look. Now if the baby's head is shiny, I don't much care for bald.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I think some kits are so sweet bald because it keeps that ultimate newborn, fragile look. I guess maybe thats why I love painted hair so much as the skull shape is fully visable. I like to see as much variety in the doll world as possible, even though I dont own any baldies, I have had many a kit I think would have been so sweet bald.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
Brooke, I tend to agree with you for the most part. I think they look unfinished as well. One in a great while is ok, but if you look on ebay, too many are bald. And the prices being asked for those "unfinished" babies is ridiculous. Sorry, my opinion only but I agree.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
It depends upon the kit. Some I really don't like bald at all. Even a little peach fuzz would work for such kits.
On tiny micro-preemies...like Caleb, for example...I don't mind bald at all. Of course, the head should be mottled nicely.
What I do really like, which I know not everyone does, is very, very sparse hair on newborn-type reborn babies. I don't usually like very thick hair on the newborns, with a few exceptions. So I know I'm different in that way - I don't usually like a whole lot of hair unless it's an older baby or a toddler. Dark hair is fine, black hair is fine, I just don't like when the entire scalp is covered, for some reason. (Painted or rooted.)

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I like bald babies because I like hats -- knitted hats on my babies.... and the hair gets so messed up.... so it is easier if they are bald. If you look at the pictures of bald babies on here you will see they almost always have something on their heads. I have one painted hair baby - Walter - and I like that. I do have lots of babies with hair... even rooted some of them myself. I also like to look at the beautifully sculpted feet and hands on the dolls... so don't like footed sleepers or those gloves some people put on the babies. And the paci --- throw it out. Like to see the cute faces.... I am particular about what I like in a baby -- prefer open eyes and little boys. Ruth

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
Bald is beautiful! I guess its imprinting...all my babies were bald...the first one for at least two years...
I always hesitate when it comes to putting hair on such pretty little heads...that is why I settle for painted hair more than rooting too...at least I can enjoy the shape of their heads...
Just personal preference...Quinlynn is a gorgeous BALDY.
Many babies are born with little or no hair...

Personally I love well done painted hair over bald and rooted.

I love them all. I love rooted hair, but have a serious obsession with hats so for that I love baldies. My siggi baby has been wearing that hat for nearly a week and I have no plans to take it off her lol

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I agree that most human babies at least have fuzz or something. With dolls, I think it depends on the sculpt. I have some dolls that I love bald and I'll never root. Also, as a rooter, it is SUPER difficult to root hair into a basic "peach fuzz" state. The sparser the hair, honestly, the harder it is to root. You can't hold hair that short and if you actually root it as close together as human hair follicles, it ends up a pretty full head. You don't see a human with space between the hair strands. Not really. Sooooo, it's just difficult. I do understand what you mean though. I think it is "to each his own" likes and dislikes too. Whatever you like and prefer, that's what you should have on your babies.
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!
Cheers, Erin

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
Yeah my son was "bald" for a long time but this is a close up of his scalp when he was a couple of months old. I would love to see more reborns with this look but I think it's hard to replicate.
My own reborn is bald and I keep him in hats most of the time because he does looks unfinished to me.

I think artists are lucky that customers have all different preferences, and collectors are lucky that all artists have different styles.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I have to agree Brooke. I have seen so many real babies that look bald but aren't. Peach fuzz ladies! learn how to do it!
Short hair like Mari showed.
I do have a hard time cutting off all but a 1/2 inch of hair after I've rooted the head. I've done it but have a hard time with it.
Enjoy,
Nancy J.

Re: ABOUT BALDIES
I do not think they look unfinished at all. I do agree that only certain sculpts have a nice shaped head for this.
