My first Himstedt, and she's a big one!
Hi Folks.
I was lucky enough to snag my first Annette Himstedt and she arrived this morning. She's Evimike, one of the two 48" tall Summer Kinders from 2004. Her and her sister Annalisa are the two largest scuplts Annette has done (as afar as I'm aware).
I'm not sure if I love that facial expression or loathe it, what do you think? Also, does anyone know exactly how to pronounce her name? I presume it's not as written, it doesn't sound right? Then again it's not an English name, so maybe it is!
I'd be in the market for her sister Annalisa if anyone has one they're looking to part with
Mark.

Hi Mark,
congrats to your first Himie! I don't know, how to pronounce her name in English, it is quite difficult for me as a German, sorry..Well, I personally don't like smiling faces at all at dolls, because it leaves no room for interpretations..But, this is just my personal opinion. Enjoy your big girl!

Re: My first Himstedt, and she's a big one!
Congratulations on her. She sure is cheerful. I think her name is pronounced (take in mind I am not German ) [Eevameeke]
I think the fact that she has no facecolor is influencing your feelings towards her. I would try and put on a little bit of powderblush (easy to remove if you decide to sell her or if you change your mind) with a big blush brush. Just at the top of her cheekbones
And perhaps also try and find her sister. they belong together snd you would love to have them both. They compliment each other.

Not wild about the facial expression, as Jutta said it kind of makes her a one trick pony, kwim? Plus she reminds me of a clown doll, not sure why. Maybe the cheekbones?? So maybe try the blush idea. I think you need the sister and maybe that happy happy face will make more sense??? idk.

I think she's awesome. I do not have any himmies but one of these days I will get at least one. Perhaps change her outfit to something with more muted colors and see if that helps tone done her expressive face, might sound weird, also I don't think her hair color is doing her any favors but that is hard to change if the wig is glued on which is most probable. I am not a big fan of almost all of the dolls I have seen with teeth for the most part they just don't look natural.

Congratulations! I like how you posed her at the piano. She looks likes she's singing along to whatever she is playing and having a great time

Re: My first Himstedt, and she's a big one!
I have collected Himstedt dolls for many years, and I still like them a lot. But...the quality is sometimes poor for such pricy dolls. In most cases there will be streaks on the vinyl after a while, no matter how careful you treat the doll. Sometimes wigs get loose, or colours fade away. Here in Germany there is still a market for them, but the prices are so down, that older Himstedts get sold for about 150 EUR on Ebay. I had to sell an entire collection for an absolute bargain price. Don't get me wrong, the expression, the faces and clothes are very beautiful of these dolls, but there are better ones around like Skille ore Zwergnase dolls.

I actually really like her expression, and her face overall. She looks joyful - that joyful abandon of a preschool child. Enjoy!

Hi.
Thanks for all the replies. I too prefer a more neutral look, although a slight hint of a smile is nice too. I think Gerlinde Feser has it about right in her Jana sculpt, where she's just trying to put a little smile out.
@Fini07 - Yes, I get what you mean about quality, they (well, this one!) don't seem very well made, a very plastic feel to them. Although I admit she's 10 years old, she does have a more "play doll" quality about her than a proper expensive one.
I also don't like the colouring, it's just "false" when sitting next to other dolls with a more realistic skin tone. I wouldn't even say it's an Eastern European tone. I "may" have an artist repaint her, in the modern style with all the fine mottling, veining etc, but it depends if the vinyl is oven compatible with Genesis, or whether to use air dry. Not sure if that constitutes vandalism in the eyes of Himstedt aficionados though, so please don't flame me!
Mark.

Re: My first Himstedt, and she's a big one!
If you repaint her she will loose a LOT of value. Repainted himstedts are not so easy to sell. It is why I would carefully just add some powder rouge to her using a makeup brush. You could do the same with the lips. If you do decide she is not for you it is easy to remove with just a dampened cloth and would not affect her value or compremise her in any way. I have had many Himstedts too. Now I have only Shillin left. One day I would like to add some more jointed Himstedts. I do love the posability of the joints (also there are fewer made: only two faces a year, and after 2006, also two of the Summerchildren, were made with joints).

Hi Mark,
I say if you want to re-do her "GO FOR IT"! Take a look at this page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 104&type=1 Debbie has redone a Himstedt Repaint
I like your happy faced girl. I also believe she would look more realistic with the proper paint.
If you are on Face book you might be able to find your other Himstedt doll on there. That is the go to place now. I am sure there are Himstedt groups there also.
Best of luck,
Catherine

I love Himstedts! They are a lot of fun to dress and pose. She certainly is a happy girl and I hope that you can find her sister, too. I took a look at the website with the repainted ones and they look amazing! Congratulations on your new girl! Hugs, Dion

Mark, I belong to this group. You could ask about getting an Anna Lisa (I think that's the name).

Re: My first Himstedt, and she's a big one!
I have lots of Himstedt dolls, however, I am not fussed on Evimike, due to her facial expression. I don't like Linn or Rinike either due to the open mouth thing. I think it would bug the crap out of me long term. Just my opinion of course.

I've got 8 Himmies and I love mine. I will admit, I go for the more neutral expressions but I think your girl is cute. Spruce her up a bit and change her clothes. She'll grow on you Mark.
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!
Cheers, Erin
