How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
I've had people tell me they love the mottling on their babies to be more noticeable , and others who want the mottling to be a lighter layer of the doll, so what is your preference?! Would love to know your comments on this!

I think I'm somewhere in between. I hate when it barley looks like there's anything but at the same time I hate when it's very heavy. I think it also depends on the kit as well

It depends on the kit for me.
I love moderate/heavy mottling on very newborn looking sculpts.

I hate it when it's so heavy that the baby looks like a snake.

i don't like the blue mottling to be too intense, only barely there, but the red mottling can be a bit more intense, without looking like blood. I bought a silicone and when it arrived, the maker had painted it so red it looked like a dead and mutilated... it was pure horror.

Never heavy for me. Lots of real babies only show mottling when they're cold. I chose not to have my babies cold.

I think it depends on the "age" of the baby. I also think it is personal preference, so what one likes, another won't.
I would go by what look/age you are going for.

I like mine light/moderate. The baby in my siggy is exactly how I like it--you can see the mottling but it does not take away from the baby's face. I have not yet been able to replicate the look of Mia's coloring, but I hope I will be able to on Miracle!

I vote for light to none too. I love the peaches and cream coloring.

Depends on how old the baby is supposed to be for me. The younger babies I tend to like more mottling, and older babies not so much!

Re: How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
Yes, I like mottling on newborns, but not so much on older babies
I really like blue tones where the babies skin is thinner, but I bought a pre loved baby whose blue tones gradually darkened enough to make baby look like a battered baby
I've since had this remedied

None or very light for me as well. I am of the same mind as Nancy that I don't want my babies cold, so the less mottling the better.

Re: How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
Hi.
I know the discussion is about babies, but if I can, I'll put my two cents in on the subject with the child size dolls too. I've had this discussion with a number of artists before, and my personal preference is to have them mottled, I think it gives a more realistic effect, but sometimes it can look a little over the top.
This is Lucy (Eliza), and I think her mottling has been done just perfectly:
And this is Katie (Angelica). Her mottling is probably a little over the top, but still works well. In some lighting conditions, she can look a bit ill, but in daylight, it works very well:
This is Katie's arm, which does show the mottling up quite extremely. But again, the overall effect still works well on her I think:
Mark.

Re: How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
I like it heavier on a really newborn sculpt..and have not really perfected the 'chilled' look..but really newborns sometimes take awhile for their body temps to regulate well..so they do get that 'pyted' look as my grandmother called it.
I use less on older babies...and peaches n cream babies may only get a light mottling with a darker somewhat pink flesh tone just to give some dimension.

Re: How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
I actually like the mottled look on my larger dolls because it makes me think of them having been outside playing, especially playing outside in the snow which really appeals to me since I live in the desert.Mark_Haysman wrote:Hi.

Re: How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
I like my dolls painted like my sight pictures. Please note the photo of esme below is a little over exposed and so her details actually show less than in real life. But over all I like the peaches & cream.
Re: How heavy do you like your mottling on babies?
I think this question is really a personal preference. Personally, I like more on newborn babies, and less on toddlers. But, I've met lots of people who don't want ANY on their reborn baby no matter the age.
