Question about baby's head
Question about baby's head
Since this is my very first reborn I was just wondering something. When I lay her down on her back, her head goes back a little too far and her chin sticks up a bit. I need to prop her head on a pillow to get it to lay at the right angle. Is this typical for reborns? If it was made to not tilt back like that, would it lose its floppiness?
Thanks so much,
Deb

Re: Question about baby's head
Yes, it's typical. All of mine are like that and have to have their head propped with a pillow.
Re: Question about baby's head
No problem! If I am taking pictures and want them posed different ways without a pillow sometimes I'll roll up blankets and position under them so they will stay the way I want. Sometimes I'll even take a hair elastic and use that to make them stay in the position I have placed them for the picture.

Re: Question about baby's head
Yep! Completely normal.
Re: Question about baby's head
This baby seems to lay perfectly without anything under her head. I wonder what the trick is.

Re: Question about baby's head
I can put a folded wash cloth under the head so it's not back too far. I use lots of things under arms , head, or leg to pose them for photos.
Enjoy,

Re: Question about baby's head
If you look closely when she's taken ofd the baby's clothes, the body is hardly stuffed, at least not in the chest area. The bulk of the body has a lot to do with how the head lies. I would gladly trade a tipped back head over not having the body stuffed properly. But everyone has different preferences. I usually display my babies with their head lying on little pillows or rolled up blankets.Deb17 wrote:This baby seems to lay perfectly without anything under her head. I wonder what the trick is.

Re: Question about baby's head
I never pose mine for pics without arranging things under a pretty blanket to get head and limbs into the position I'm after. The baby on the right in my sigi has a three cornered pillow under the blanket

Re: Question about baby's head
The doll in this video is very lightly stuffed. She looks like there's hardly anything inside her body. So many factors can play a part. The body used, how it's stuffed, the length of the vinyl neck, the kit in general. All these things can change the baby and I think each person has their own preferences as to how they feel and pose. There really isn't a right or wrong. I feel what you're experiencing is completely normal.Deb17 wrote:This baby seems to lay perfectly without anything under her head. I wonder what the trick is.
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!

So if some of the stuffing was removed, her head might lay a little flatter? I wonder if that can be done easily and how much someone would charge to do it.

Re: Question about baby's head
oh it's so easy to do it yourself! just cut the ziptie that connects the head to the body and take some of the stuffing out. rethread a long ziptie and tighten it around the neck again.Deb17 wrote:So if some of the stuffing was removed, her head might lay a little flatter? though if you're not okay with doing it yourself, if you just cover shipping I would happily do it for you! I keep my babies lightly understuffed up top so their heads don't do that. I find them more cuddly that way.
Re: Question about baby's head
Sometimes if you use a small bag of glass pellets ( not what they are called) wrapped up in part of a clean nylon and position that towards the front of the face and stuff polyfill around it, the head will not do that either and still be floppy at the same time.

Re: Question about baby's head
At a class i attended many years ago, was told to put weighting beads or ball bearings in a little bag and place at the front of the head and stuff behind this, my little ones do not need a pillow to look good when laying down.

Re: Question about baby's head
It is normal, but sometimes if the head is excessively heavy the effect is much more noticeable, also depends a lot where the weight it is placed. If the weight inside the head it is placed back will be much more easy the effect you have on your doll, if the weight it is placed in the forehead it is more compensated. Also depends on the head shape, and neck lenght of the sculpt. But in general all reborns or the major of them have this effect and you have to acomodate the head a bit when you lay them.

Re: Question about baby's head
Exactly, I found this also years ago, I think the head movement is more natural and is true you don't have to acomodate the head so oftenhookedoncrochet wrote:At a class i attended many years ago, was told to put weighting beads or ball bearings in a little bag and place at the front of the head and stuff behind this, my little ones do not need a pillow to look good when laying down.
