Can someone please explain

Post by marilyn »

Why anyone who expects to sell a doll on doll-fan (regardless of price) show only 1 picture and give very few details (paints used, length, reborner if known, etc. More than likely, those same individuals would probably not buy a doll on any site without first having this information so I think it only fair that the information be provided on this site.

I agree. It totally annoys me when only one photo is posted with very little info. More annoying is when people say message me for photos and price. Those ads I usually just close and move on. Seems only logical that a for sale post should include several large clear pictures along with basic details like who did the reborning, dolls stats, price and layaway info if offered and what the baby will come with.
Hugs,
Nadia

Marilyn, I would think it might be a new artist or young artist who is not familiar with the marketing one must be aware of when selling this craft or anything for that fact.

Remember a few years ago when we were bombarded with all the new young artist who hadn't even taken a lesson? Same difference.

Is that why there is no interest in any of the dolls I have posted for sale?

I haven't posted lots of pictures of them and I give the basic information, but do you think
if I post more pictures and more details, they might sell?
I have always thought people don't like reading long posts with a lot of pictures, but if there
was interest, I could provide more details.

When I am interested in a doll, I ususally ask questions and sometimes, for more pictures.

I really appreciate the few ladies who take the time to comment on my dolls and give me encouragement! :foryou:

It isn't so much LOTS of pictures or information people want, but at least two or three different, clear pictures. Maybe one dressed up, one a little more casual and then something showing close-up details like hands and feet. The artist's name, type of paint used and stuff like that helps. Oh, and always the size and weight. I too will never email anybody for information or go on an internet search for pictures of a doll. I also absolutely will not go to Facebook.

Read this and had to sign on to reply. You are so right! This has been getting to me so much lately.

I don't like negativeness and typically not a complainer, and so if it was only a listing here or there I'd just think to myself "whatever", and move on. But it's so many!

Wouldn't be so bad I guess, if you pm the seller, get your questions answered, are sent pictures you ask for. In many cases though, I'm completely ignored, no response at all. Why reduce a baby over and over again as if you are desperate to sell and then not respond at all? Or another thing that happens, I'll get a response to the effect of: no time to take pictures and other parties are interested so if you want you better get. Or, baby is already sold (no problem, but can't a person take 3 seconds to edit the listing to say sold)?

Finally, what I've come across lately... people selling babies and asking, over and over again, for offers. Then when interest is expressed, questions asked about the baby, and a reasonable starting amount of what you would be willing to offer should you decide to buy is given... ugh... just taking so much of your own thought and time. Then in response get something that doesn't acknowledge anything you've written, answers no questions, just a short and abrupt reply... "No way. Not taking a penny less than what I have listed at."

Makes me go :dunno: ??? Like, why go on and on in listings about how badly you need to sell, asking for offers, etc... and then when you get interest you just state "NOPE"! No discussion, no counter offer, don't answer any of potential buyer's questions. Some who are not willing to send pictures and have only one picture, sometimes no picture at all, in the for sale ad. I mean... do people think that they can just write a sentence, ask for hundreds or thousands of dollars, and that someone will say, "Yeah! Great! Here ya go, take my money!."

So crazy and just makes me scratch my head. :-?

And to add to what Tiffany said. I've read so many posts complaining about potential buyers asking questions and have seen so many listings where the seller states that you should only ask questions if you plan to buy-??? How are you supposed to know if the doll is right for you without asking questions and why should anyone have to commit or feel obligated to buy without having all of their questions answered. When you buy something in a store, you can see and hold the item- you know exactly what you are getting and these dolls are not like a loaf of bread or quart of milk, even the less expensive ones are a lot and can be someone's long saved money. To expect someone to buy something sight unseen with very minimal questions because the seller finds them annoying is just plain wrong. (I'd like to add here that I have never had this experience myself with a seller , I've just seen listings that I wouldn't touch no matter how much I loved the doll because the seller is so off-putting)

I believe that if there is some reasonable amount of information and several pictures as Brooke stated, additional questions would be kept to a minimum. I don't want to have to PULL information from someone on a doll that I MIGHT be interested in. the information posted should be enough to spur my interest or not!

Yes spur your interest but asking questions should not be looked at as wrong- no one should have to buy a doll feeling as if they didn't have all the information they needed to make the decision. Why should a potential buyer have to worry about asking questions- it is perfectly reasonable when making a rather large purchase.

I agree with all of this and the other thing is small, unclear pictures...that gets me to go on the next post.

And another one more thing! Don't put too many pictures either. It's equally annoying to have to go through 10 or more pictures, usually pretty much the same pose. All you need to do is be sure the details are there; a picture of the entire doll alone (without a paci blocking the mouth), a close-up of the face, and a detail of the hands and feet. A close up of the rooting is nice too if the doll is rooted.

:D I have found when selling that you save yourself tons of trouble, if you just list everything you can think of along with lots of pictures right at the beginning. For awhile, I had several potential buyers ask for head circumference, so I even add that.

I might glance at an ad with one or no pics, but I usually just move along to the next baby of interest. I never go to Facebook either, and I very seldom click on EBay links.

I always put loads of close-ups of the babies I sell.................one small picture is not going to help sell a baby.............you need details..........Hugs, Kathy
