PREEMIE PAINTING TIPS???
PREEMIE PAINTING TIPS???
I'm looking for suggestions or hints on the best way to paint a preemie. I think there must be differences in the way they are painted.

Thank you Judy. Hmmmm, they all seem to be a bit rosier than full term babies. Perhaps a bit more mottled. I imagine the veining would be more noticeable because of thinner skin. I'll keep working on it and do my best when my little Corbin kit gets here.

Yes, rosier is what you want to do. There is a good color look with the photo that is the hand holding the two little rosy feet. Those are preemie feet and known for not only the tiny size but the very rosy color.
Enjoy,

Re: PREEMIE PAINTING TIPS???
When I am painting a preemie I tend to do many many more mottling layers in 2 colors than a full term baby which makes the skin look more translucent and I also do a LOT more veining and more capillaries too. It sort of depends on how young the preemie is. If the baby is portraying less than say, 24 weeks, (a micro preemie) then the redder/pinker the better but if they are near full term then I paint them almost like a newborn just like I mentioned deeper mottling so give the illusion of thinner skin. I tend to like more fair skinned peaches and cream babies anyway so even for my smallest preemie babies I keep them lighter than what they would look like irl. That is just how I do it though and I am sure others do it their own way that works for them. Good luck and have fun.
