What's wrong with these silicones?

This would be the place to ask questions or share information concerning all types of doll making, re-doing, etc.

What's wrong with these silicones?

Post by MichellesReborns »

Admin please move this if I'm in the wrong thread

There's something I've noticed that's been bugging me a long time... I frequently check what silicones are listed on eBay, and for over a year I've seen these dolls (links below) relisted over and over again. They're 16 inches, have rooted hair, and really inexpensive for full body silicones. Why is nobody buying them? Is there something wrong with them? Their pictures are a bit blurry but I've seen way worse sell for a lot more on eBay.

The dolls I'm talking about:

I'm still a novice in this world I I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Michelle

I'm glad no one is buying those. Those look like IVITA silicones that the seller is buying, rooting hair into and then reselling. They're very poorly done, and IVITA is a Chinese company known for illegally copying artists' work. They've ripped off so many sculptors by stealing their sculpt and making them into cheap silicones.

If I sound a bit harsh in that reply, it's not directed towards you haha. It's just frustrating to see these thieves making money off of other people's hard work.

@Izzy

oh wow you're right it looks like this one plus hair!

I've heard mixed things about IVITA. Apparently they use "platinum" not "tin" silicone which is what a lot of knock offs use but if they're stealing sculpts that's dishonest and I will not support them.

:heart: really, there's no need to buy the knockoffs anyways. People say they can't afford a real silicone but you can get a cloth body silicone kit for about $500. Sometimes completed ones sell for that on the secondhand market, too. You just have to know where to look.

Well, you get what you pay for and these dolls it doesn't look like you get very much. I looked at her "other items" on Ebay and it looks like she is selling the same doll over and over. Perhaps she did get several of the same dolls, but you can see that of the 6 or so dolls she has for sale it looks like she has three each of just two of them. If she really is selling them for that price you can be sure she got them for much less than she is asking because otherwise she wouldn't make any $$$$ on them. I wonder who sculpted these? I wonder who reborn them? The hair looks crazy and I would never buy a doll without seeing an up close picture of the rooting and other details like hands and feet. The paint doesn't look that great. They actually look like they are wearing wigs. What silicone are these made out of? Cheaper silicones don't mold well and go bad fairly easily. They also don't hold the paint and it will wear off. I'm concerned that the very dark, out of focus pictures so you don't see what you are getting. Most of her feedback is for her as a buyer, not seller, so its iffy about her business practices. Run away.
