Just curious how people feel viewing Ebay auctions

Post by LovinIt_Crystal »

Little late noticing some ebay security message about needing to click on descriptions and that the sellers might not buy because of "Not Secure" messages. :banghead:
I tried to understand how to change my auctions but it was way over my head so just curious personally how people feel about it when viewing auctions??
I myself haven't been bothered at all by clicking the description but would like to know if it is affecting my sales? (from others perspective)

Do you mean when we as buyers have to open the "See Full Description" tab when viewing listings? If so when I'm scrolling Ebay I normally hate taking the time to click on that link unless I feel the baby profile pictures are really amazing or if I see the baby in here and the artist provides the link and I want to see more pictures. Other than that it takes too much time for me to click on each listing and then also click on that "see full description" button. If you aren't talking about this I'm not sure what you mean. lol

I use a template and Photobucket(yes, I paid that horrible price to keep all my stuff there)for my auctions. EBay has sent out notices stating that 3rd party hosting needs to come from a secure site. I guess they are worried about being sued over a security breach. When I copy and paste my pics from PB, they are showing as unsecure. So, I have to go into my auction(in the HTML format) and change “http” pics to “https” to satisfy security. I have read there is a way to change several at one time(which I am sure is easier), but haven’t figured out a way to do it.

Your pictures have to come from a secure location (begin in HTTPS instead of HTTP). You can't just change all your picture links to HTTPS because the HTTPS link must be an actual location or the pictures will not show up. I am in the process of slowly going through and hosting all my Ebay pictures here on Doll-Fan instead of my website, but it is very time consuming and alot of trouble. I wish Ebay didn't enact this requirement. There was really no reason for it!

I've been changing mine for the last few auctions and the message from EBay(the one above the description section) disappears when I add the "s" to all my pics. I haven't had anyone contact me about not being able to see my pics. Can you please check out my auction and see if you can see the pics? Thanks.

Edited to add: If I have a pic that I haven't changed, I can't see the pic. Instead, I see a message where the pic should be that states it is a violation of their policy.

Thank you, Barbara. I guess I will keep doing it that way until eBay sends me a nasty message. Is there any kind of alert that you see attached to my auction? I can't imagine them not allowing PB to be used as a host.

OK...just found this on PB. I will have to study the link provided to see how to make it easier on me when converting my pics.

Does Photobucket support HTTPS?
Yes, Photobucket now supports HTTPS.
For images that are already linked out to eBay, blogs, or forums, you can update your links manually by adding the "s" to HTTP.
If you're an eBay seller, eBay has a tool that will allow you to check your listings and update them to HTTPS. This tool can be found on the following link: http://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/lis ... dards.html

What I have had to do is after I fill in the description part of my auction, go in the description part of it and after http, I have had to add the s to each picture. I use Rob's free form, he may of fixed it by now as it has been a while since I have listed anything.

Shannon, some people at ebay know how to do that but not all of them , it can be confusing but so much quicker.

I definitely need to learn the quicker way. I only needed to update my template pics one time since I relist using the same one. However, it is rather daunting to find all my pics once I copy and paste them into the template. Extremely frustrating when EBay is showing that you have only 1 left to change and you can’t find it within all those codes. I am not tech savvy and usually end up cursing or crying trying to figure things out. Hence, the reason I chose to stay with Photobucket.

No alerts on any pictures I saw, Shannon. Gorgeous baby and beautiful auction. Just the kind I will take notice of. I am curious though, throughout all this change with pictures and problems, why people haven't gone to Picture Trail?

Thanks for your kind words.
I’m not familiar with Picture Trail. I’ve been with PB for so long and have so many pictures stored there. Plus, I still have a template that is recognized with PB. The thought of moving them and learning something new causes me way too much stress. Paying that $1.10/day is well worth it for me. I’m sure there are others that would love to check it out, though.

Shannon, can you copy your template into a word document, then use the "Find and Replace" tool to replace the http with https?
Then recopy and paste it into your auction?

I didn't notice the "See Full Description" tab at first since it is farther down on the page but now that I know it's there I'll be sure to look for it. At first I just thought those sellers weren't doing the template thing - other buyers might think that as well.

Shannon, I can see your pictures fine! Since Photobucket supports HTTPS you are fine doing it the way you have been. I had my pictures for my auctions hosted on my website, which does not support HTTPS unless I pay an extra $100 or something like that. So if I were to add an S to all my auction pictures it would not be a real location and an X would show where the picture should be. I figured since I already pay for my DF subscription and I don't have many auctions I would just use DF for my pics!

As far as quickly changing all your pics to HTTPS, if you use Dreamweaver it has a find and replace tool. If you work directly on Ebay, you might see if the Edit -> Find tool in your browser works to quickly find all the places in your auction where HTTP appears. Does Photobucket allow you to copy the HTTPS link directly when you put the pictures in your template to begin with?

It is probably best for me to contact eBay and hope that a rep can walk me through how to do multiple changes. I have read what it says to do, but I can't even find what they say I should be looking under. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
None of the codes in Photobucket have the "s" needed. When I put pics into my auction template, I right click on the pics in Photobucket and use "copy" and "paste" options to transfer them into my template. I don't use the codes. I paste my pics under Standard mode so I know exactly where they will appear in the auction template and then go into HTML mode to add the s. Here is just a snippet(my template is about 10 pages of codes) of how frustrating it is to find all the https to change within those template codes. :banghead: Please keep in mind that they are NOT highlighted like they are nicely done here. I wish.

Yeah, I can see how that would be really frustrating! Have you tried the "Find" or "Find on this page" tool in your browser? That's what I would suggest. I use Firefox, but I think most browsers have one. Just search for "http" when you are editing your Ebay auction (have the HTML tab selected) and it will highlight everywhere that http appears and you can easily see where to add an S.
